Brunch Culture Is Real: Best Brunch and breakfast Cafes in Lisbon, Portugal

While brunch culture is huge at home in the States, not everywhere abroad has adopted the same bottomless mimosas and avo on toast brunch-tastic delicacies.

“Brunch is breakfast without an alarm.”

That is, except for Lisbon. I have yet to visit another continental European city that embraces brunch as much as Americans do. But I mean hey, prove me wrong! I love me some brunch so if you know any other brunch hotspots in the world let me know in the comments below.

But first, let’s take a look at some of the  best brunch spots in Lisbon!

Best  Brunch & Breakfast Spots in Lisbon

My personal favorites…

The Mill

Address: R. do Poço dos Negros 1, 1200-335

This Lisbon establishment is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, so be prepared for a line going out the door. But if you can handle the wait you will not be disappointed. The Mill is an Australian-Portuguese café serving all the fresh, delicious brunch food you could ever want in a trendy, minimalist setting.

Augusto Lisboa

Address: Rua Santa M.nha 26, 1100-491

So let’s take a second to say how in awe I am of the decor all throughout Lisbon. The colorful tiles adorning every corner exterior are a boho lovers dream. The interior of Augusto Lisboa is everything I’m craving my own home to look like one day, down to the patterned dishware and gold cutlery.

Besides geeking out on the design, the food is even better. With a hankering for some avocado, I ordered the traditional avo on toast but WOWOWWOW, was this one of the best avo toasts I’ve ever had. 10/10 would recommend.

Break

Address: Rua do Poco dos Negros 73

In all honesty, we were trying to hit up another brunch establishment down the street. But when we found out there was an 1+ hour wait, our hungry stomachs were not having it. Thankfully Break was right around the corner with only a few people in line. However, we were pleasantly surprised by this super delicious alternative. And another pristine example of the adorable, bright Lisbon interior design.

Eight The Health Lounge

Address: Praça da Figueira 12A, 1100-241
Bruncher: Wendy
The Nomadic Vegan

Eight offers healthy, plant-based cuisine in a central Lisbon location on Praça da Figueira. The name refers to the eight lifestyle principles they promote: keep it bright, fresh, moving, under control, fluid, inspired, relaxed and whole. Their smoothie bowls, open-faced toasted sandwiches, salads and juices are a world away from the usual heavy Portuguese fare and will give you plenty of energy to tackle Lisbon’s hilly streets.

Bowls Bar

Address: R. de São Bento 51, 1200-815
Bruncher: Daniel
Layer Culture

While in Lisbon looking for something delicious to eat and drink for Brunch, be sure to check out Bowls Bar. Here you can enjoy your coffee brewed to perfection with the option to order from the healthy food menu. Whether it’s the Salmon bowl or the Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly options, you’ll be sure to enjoy a fresh and tasty meal. The interior is inviting and there are excellent views of the famous Lisbon trams outside.

Café Terminal Santa Apolonia

Address: Rua Caminhos de Ferro, 130, Santa Apolónia
Bruncher: Mayuri
To Someplace New

Café Terminal Santa Apolonia is located in the city center of Lisbon, near the Santa Apolonia train station. This quaint little place serves delicious meals at a very affordable price. We went there for brunch after a morning guided tour and sat for a delicious plate of mashed sardine fish with grilled tomatoes – it was super delicious and all for €6.

Brick

Address: Rua de Moçambique 2, 1170-202

Travel Boo

Set on an unassuming street corner in the up and coming neighbourhood of Anjos in Lisbon, you’ll find the trendy and increasingly popular eatery known as Brick Café.

In my opinion, Brick is without a doubt the perfect spot to enjoy one of Lisbon’s best brunches. Not only is the food delicious, it’s great value for your money too. You get to choose between two brunch options, being the Mini Brick (for around €7 – €8) or the larger Brick menu (costing just over €12).

To be honest the Mini Brick, that includes bread, a croissant, butter & jam, ham, cheese, salad, scrambled eggs, a chocolate salami slice along with a fruit juice and a choice of coffee or tea is more than enough to satisfy even the hungriest ‘bruncher’ out there.

Be sure to get there just before the lunchtime rush. Brick is especially popular over weekends, so don’t be surprised to find a queue of waiting patrons.

Stanislav Cafe

Address: 1150, R. São José 182
Bruncher: Annie
Off Goes Annie

Stanislav Cafe was by far my favourite brunch spot in Lisbon. With incredibly large portions of delicious healthy foods, all set in a quirky interior, it easily takes the top spot. They offer great combo deals of a main, drink and a small sweet side for just €14 – try out ‘The Ocean’ for a delicious smoked salmon and poached egg main, fresh coffee, and side of banana pancakes.

Heim Cafe

Address:R. Santos-O-Velho 2 e 4, 1200-109
Bruncher: Vicki
Fashion Travel Repeat

Heim Cafe is an airy plant-filled cafe in Lisbon’s Santos-O-Velho area. This popular brunch spot and hipster hangout is the perfect place to grab an almond milk latte and avocado toast. But come early, because there’s often a wait!
